On July 7th, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued its proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) for next calendar year, while simultaneously announcing the indefinite delay of the Appropriate Use Criteria/Clinical Decision Support (AUC/CDS) penalty phase beyond 2023 regardless of the continuation of the COVID-19 public health emergency.

In the new fee schedule, the agency is proposing a conversion factor of $33.07, a -$1.54 decrease compared to the 2022 conversion factor of $34.61. For our summary on payment related proposals, CLICK HERE.

Proposals to the Quality Payment Program (QPP – i.e. MIPs) were kept relatively minimal as CMS prepares for the implementation of MIPS Value Pathways in 2023. For our summary on Quality Payment Program proposals, CLICK HERE.

Comments on the Proposed Rule are open until September 7, 2022.

As always, ADVOCATE will keep you up to date on this and all issues impacting medical groups as they become available.
